I was pretty much born to teach and play music! Though I'm only in my 20s, I've been a guitar teacher for the better part of the last decade. I picked up my first students as a high schooler in Virginia and by the time I graduated I was teaching full time!
I pride myself on a model that's personalized and based around the tastes, musical needs, and learning style of the student. I don't have a method book, but I draw from dozens to create handouts of my own for each of my students. If you have a song you're dying to learn, that's the one we'll start with. I've worked with students as young as five and as old as seventy, bringing the joys of creating music to people from all walks of life.
Outside of giving lessons, I've gigged as a musician since I was 14. My performing journey has brought me joy everywhere from classical orchestras to metal shows, weddings, and even on tour. I currently gig with several New Orleans-based bands in addition to performing originals as a solo artist.
I moved to New Orleans to continue my career in 2018, and though I originally came to work for a school in Metaire, I'm now proud to say that NOLA Guitar Lessons is both my passion project, and my full time business!
Give me a call and see how learning music can change your life!
Maddie Birch is a beast! Talented, bilingual, and multi-instrumental, her gift for teaching comes both with her musical abilities and her charm when working with families. In addition to her work as a teacher, a doula, and a nanny, she’s also a pre-school teaching veteran, formerly working at Kinder Haus Montessori in Metairie.
Maddie plays guitar and piano, but her voice is something supernatural. Accomplished as a solo musician, she’s also played with pirate rock band Plastic Sturgeon and as a sit in at venues across New Orleans.
She graduated from Tulane University in 2018 with degrees in Linguistics and International Development. Hailing from the DC area, Maddie has lived in New Orleans since 2014.
